Safer Neighbourhood Team - UPDATE

Latest Crime figures
Anthony Frieze writes
- The ABG SNT is now at full strength i.e. 1 x police sergeant, 2 x police constables and 3 x police community support officers. They are still hampered by operational issues and lack of safety equipment; however, there was real progress in one of the main action areas that the previous panel meeting had agreed upon: drug dealing and associated anti-social behaviour. As reported below, two crack houses (in Avonmore Road and Stanwick Road) have been closed down. The conviction rate by the courts for those arrested and charged was still disappointing but co-operation with the community and the housing associations had yielded real results after years of complaints. Anti-social behaviour and drug-related disturbance had also tailed off encouragingly in the Marcus Garvey park vicinity.
The crime survey of local residents showed that the fear of crime still substantially outweighed peoples' actual experience of crime; in daylight hours residents feel very secure, by night much less so. There was also a discussion about Neighbourhood Watch schemes and how they can be encouraged. The SNT will follow up with residents who would like to offer them selves as organisers for their streets. This is also an initiative of the Council and so I would appeal for any ABG residents who would like to come forward to send an e-mail to me and I will forward as necessary.
Finally, if you would like to be added to the ABG SNT e-mail distribution to receive reports of the type that PS Hamer has prepared below, he will be delighted to add your name to his blind copy list of local residents. Please advise me if you would like to be included.
