Nuisance drinkers in Hammersmith & Fulham are set for a sobering jolt as councillors voted in favour of a blanket ban on anti-social public boozing. Groups of drunks, who congregate on benches on Brook Green and in Avonmore parks hurl abuse at passers-by, are being targeted by a new borough wide controlled drinking area (CDA).
H&F Council voted in favour of the tough action, following wide spread support in a public consultation. The CDA means that police and parks constables now have the power to take bottles and cans away from nuisance drinkers. Persistent boozers who refuse to hand over their drink face arrest and a night in the cells.
Councillor Alex Robson said: "We're telling the drunks who end up harassing and intimidating the vast majority of law-abiding residents, to get off the booze and get off our streets."
